Letters from professors who can assess the applicant’s academic abilities and potential for graduate school are the most useful. Letters from employers are also acceptable.

Individual work is preferred, but if including group work, the applicant’s role and contribution should be carefully noted. The portfolio should not document CAD drafting skills or technical course work that is independent from design work. Work from an architecture office, such as construction drawings or renderings, should not be included unless the applicant had a significant role in the design process.
Students without undergraduate degrees in architecture must complete:
Two Art History or Architecture History courses; the two courses combined should preferably cover a visual history of ancient or Renaissance periods up through the present. The second course should emphasize (or at least fully cover) modern and contemporary art and architecture.

**For GMAT or GRE, students need at least 30 percent on either the verbal or quant score, plus at least 40 percent on the other, e.g., applicants must show minimum competence in both but relative strength in at least one (verbal or quant), since MSM coursework requires competence in both verbal and quant skills. Prior MSM students with very low scores on either verbal or quant, or on both, have struggled with MSM coursework.
